Iowa’s McCollom wins USPTA women’s championship

LA QUINTA, CALIF. – Marina McCollom of Ames, Iowa is the women’s open division winner of the $30,000 USPTA International Championships, which were played Thursday at the La Quinta Resort and Club tennis courts in La Quinta, Calif. McCollom, the No. 1 seed, earned the championship title by defeating No. 2 seeded Jackie Bohannon from Sarasota, Fla., 6-0, 6-0. The championships are being played as part of the USPTA’s World Conference on Tennis.

The conference is scheduled Sept. 15-20 at the La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, Calif. It includes the international championships, close to 40 seminars and courses, a buying show, awards presentation, silent auction of tennis and sports memorabilia and more. It is attended by nearly 1,500 tennis-teaching professionals, industry leaders, manufacturers and media.
