Leslie Allen and Feisal Hassan will be featured on the latest episodes of “On Court with USPTA” to premiere this Saturday on the Tennis Channel. “On Court with USPTA” is the cable TV show produced by the United States Professional Tennis Association featuring instruction on playing and teaching tennis.
“Improve Your Return Game” is scheduled to air on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. Eastern time followed directly by “Decision Making in Tennis” at 6:30 p.m. ET.
The return of the serve is an important shot to master, as it can dictate which way the point will go. In “Improve Your Return Game,” USPTA Professional and former top 20 WTA player Leslie Allen takes you through various situations and goes in depth on ways to become a better returner, such as knowing where to stand and how to track the ball.
In “Decision Making in Tennis,” Master Professional Feisal Hassan identifies three comfort zones designed to improve your decision making to help players understand the situation as the ball is coming toward them and how to respond to it. Make the right decisions based on your position, balance and where you make contact in the strike zones, and you’ll learn quickly when the time is right to be defensive and when to take control of the point.
A 10-year WTA Tour competitor, Leslie Allen achieved a singles world ranking of No. 17 and is the highest-ranked player to compete on the tour with a college degree. An honor graduate of the University of Southern California, she excelled to become an ATA, NCAA and WTA champion. Claiming the singles title at the Avon Championships of Detroit, Allen made history in 1981 as the first African-American woman to win a major pro tournament since Althea Gibson's 1957 US Open victory. Allen won a combined nine singles and doubles WTA Tour titles and was a French Open mixed doubles finalist.
Off the court Allen has worn many hats in the tennis arena including representing today's top 20 players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Board of Directors, chairperson USTA Fed Cup Committee, tournament director of a WTA Tour event, TV commentator, corporate international media and promotions director, a successful Division I college women's head coach at Fordham University, and both a boys and girls high school coach at Riverdale Country Day School.
Feisal Hassan, a USPTA Master Professional, is the general manager and tennis director at the Midlothian Tennis Club in Midlothian, Va. He is also a member of the HEAD Penn Racquet Sports National Advisory Board and National Speaker's Bureau and holds USPTA specialist degrees in Competitive Player Development, Facility Management and Little Tennis. He is a USTA Recreational Coach and QuickStart trainer, a member of the National Cardio Tennis Speakers Team and co-chairs the USPTA National Education and College Curriculum committees. Hassan was also the director of coaches' education and Junior Davis Cup team coach for Tennis Zimbabwe.
