Florida’s Adrians Zguns and Texas’ Ristine Olson capture singles titles for second year in a row at the USPTA Hard Court Championships

Adrians Zguns of Orlando, Fla., defended his men's open title after defeating Piotr Banas of Lafayette, La., 7-6, 6-0 at the $13,000 United States Professional Tennis Association Hard Court Championships Oct. 21 at the Hollytree Country Club in Tyler, Texas. Ristine Olson of Austin, Texas, defended her women's open championship title by going undefeated in round robin play. Olson also went on to win the Mixed Open Doubles title with Jonas Lundblad, of Austin, Texas, after defeating Jory Ereckson of Georgetown, Texas, and Michelle King of Austin, Texas, 6-1, 6-4.

The tournament, which was held from Oct. 19-21, and was presented by The Original Evans AC, included events in the following categories: men's and women's open singles, men's open doubles, mixed open doubles, men's 45 and 55 singles, women's 50 singles, women's 35 doubles, and mixed 40 doubles.

Men's 45-and-over Singles Round Robin

Micky Navarro, Tyler, Texas, def. Tim Davis, Jacksonville, Fla., 6-1, 6-2. Navarro def. Barry Brady, Little Rock, Ark., 6-2, 6-2. Navarro def. Jon Stitt, Fernwood, Miss., 6-4, 6-3. Stitt def. Brady, 7-6, 6-4. Brady def. Davis, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Stitt def. Davis, 6-1, 6-0.

Men's 55-and-over Singles

Women's 50-and-over Singles Round Robin

Men's Open Doubles Finals

Cary Lothringer, Woodlands, Texas, and Jonas Lundblad, Austin, Texas, def. James Daly, Tyler, Texas, and Adrians Zguns, Orlando, Fla., 6-4, 6-4.

Mixed Open Doubles

Ristine Olson, Austin, Texas, and Jonas Lundblad, Austin, Texas, def. Jory Ereckson, Georgetown, Texas, and Michelle King, Austin, Texas, 6-1, 6-4.

Mixed 40-and-over Doubles

Jon Stitt, Fernwood, Miss., and Lori Robertson, Albuquerque, N.M., def. Micky Navarro, Tyler, Texas, and Kathy Vick, Lubbock, Texas, 6-4, 7-6.

Women's 35-and-over Doubles

Michelle King, Austin, Texas, and Athena Cajas, Burleson, Texas, def. Kathy Vick, Lubbock, Texas, and Lori Robertson, Albuquerque, N.M., 7-5, 1-6, 6-0.

The tournament was the final one for 2012 in a series of national tournaments on several court surfaces that the USPTA offered to its members as part of the USPTA National Surface Championship Series.
