Professional Certification

The following steps apply to USPTA-certified membership:

Complete the application

    • Choose a test date and site and include the information on your application.

    • Review the Exam Prep Options chart and determine which plan works best for you.

    • If you prefer to take portions of the Certification Exam online, you may do so by selecting that option on your application. The Professional Tennis Coaches Academy I is also available online.

    • If you would like to purchase a hard copy of the study materials for $25, select the option on the application.

    • Application fee and prorated dues are due when you submit your application. (See the fee schedule or call USPTA.) The nonrefundable application fee covers all administrative costs, an email version of study materials, the online or live PTCA I, the Certification Exam and test processing. You may include your credit card information in your online application. If paying by check, mail the application and all appropriate fees to the Membership Department at the USPTA World Headquarters.

Recreational Coach

The USPTA Recreational Coach category is designed for people who may already be teaching tennis - as high school coaches, at recreational facilities or in other part-time situations - but are not immediate candidates for careers as full-time teaching professionals.

To become a Recreational Coach, applicants must complete the online PTCA I or attend a USTA Team Coaching Workshop, which covers the basic standards of tennis teaching. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply for this category.

If you have already met either of these requirements, please click here for a USPTA Recreational Coach application.

Wheelchair Certification

USPTA is committed to quality teaching of all players and understands the need to fill the void in the wheelchair certification area. This program opens up new teaching opportunities for professionals and encourages the growth of wheelchair tennis.

The wheelchair certification allows teaching pros to work with wheelchair players and instruct other teachers on this sport.

The certification includes Professional Tennis Coaches Academy I, and a private lesson and written exam. Current USPTA members need only pay a fee for the certification; there are no additional annual dues. Nonmembers pay an application fee and annual dues.

Contact USPTA World Headquarters to schedule a workshop.
