Henry Walsh of Wichita, Kan., won the men's open title after defeating Franco Mata of Naples, Fla., 6-3, 6-2, at the $5,000 United States Professional Tennis Association Grass Court Championships Saturday at the Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia. Marina McCollom of West Des Moines, Iowa, defended her women's open title by defeating Ann Pellow of Davis, Calif., 6-0, 6-0.
The tournament, which was held from Aug. 26-28, also included men's and women's open doubles, and men's 45 singles events. The competition featured many of the top men and women tennis-teaching professionals in the country.
