An 81-year-old high-school coach's no-cut policy has been a win-win

David Steinbach has a motto that he’s stuck with throughout his 35 years as a high-school tennis coach: quantity plus quality equals success.

It’s an equation that has treated him well. As the coach of the girls’ and boys’ Brookfield Central High School tennis teams, Steinbach has notched over 1,000 victories. He has won 13 state championships, finished runner-up at states another 13 times and collected 28 conference championships. READ MORE

USPTA and ThanksUSA Announce 2017-2018 Scholarship Recipients

The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and ThanksUSA is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 Scholarship Recipients. Through the Tennis Thanks the Troops campaign, USPTA and ThanksUSA encourage USPTA professionals to raise money for scholarships given to the families of U.S. military personnel. Each recipient will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship towards their undergraduate studies. READ MORE

Why Senior Tennis Matters to the Rest of Us

“You Schmuck” my father’s voice bellowed as I hit a backhand that hit the back fence. My dad was referring to me using my head, but I thought image was everything. Hey, that’s what Agassi said, right? And besides, I liked hitting winners, when they went in. It was fun. I had played tennis since I was ten-years old and found very limited success as a junior but was the captain of the Beverly Hills High School tennis team, so at least I had that going for me. However, I was not destined for greatness, at least not on the court. READ HERE

Gabella Inducted to the Colt Athletic Hall of Fame

USPTA Professional Laura Gabella was inducted in the SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame on Nov. 4. Gabella was a two-year tennis standout, playing both singles and doubles at SUNY Orange. READ MORE

Swope Named Director of Tennis Management

USTA Florida announced that Frank Swope has been named director of tennis management. He will lead the new division aimed at partnering with municipalities to manage and improve public tennis facilities across the state. READ MORE

Bender Wins Fromuth Drawing

Lynn Bender walked away with a free pair of Nike’s courtesy of Fromuth Tennis during the 2017 USPTA Buying Show. Workshop attendees who registered before the early bird deadline of Sept. 8 were entered in a drawing for a chance to win a free pair of Nike’s courtesy of Fromuth Tennis. Bender’s name was drawn from the more than 500 names entered in the raffle.
