USPTA Offers Equivalency Pathway for Current and Former PTR Members

Membership equivalency program will run through 2019

LAKE NONA, Fla – The United States Professional Tennis Association Board of Directors has approved an equivalency pathway to membership for current and former certified Professional Tennis Registry Members. The program, which will run through 2019, allows PTR certified tennis professionals an expediated process that will consider their current and former certified membership status.

“As the only USTA-accredited tennis-teaching association, we felt it was important to offer a pathway for PTR members with the minimum roadblocks possible,” said USPTA President Gary Trost. “There will be many new benefits for certified professionals from an accredited organization and we felt all certified professionals should have the opportunity to take advantage of these benefits.”

This past spring, USPTA received USTA provisional accreditation. Having moved to Orlando in 2017, the Association has enhanced its relationship with the national governing body. Several USPTA divisions have established collaborative agreements with corresponding USTA sections and USPTA is working in concert with the USTA to become officially accredited. USTA accreditation will come with significant benefits for association members.

“It is critical to the growth of tennis in America that we have the best trained teaching professionals possible,” said USPTA CEO John Embree. “Our board, led by President Trost, has been very forward thinking in developing this program. Our relationship with the USTA is stronger than ever so we thought it imperative to offer this USPTA membership pathway to all qualified PTR professionals.”
